McAllen-based Mexican seafood staple La Costa Grill will spend $2 million developing a new location inside Northwest San Antonio’s Landmark North shopping area, regulatory filings show.

The nearly 7,000-square-foot eatery will be the concept’s first venture outside the Rio Grande Valley. Construction on the site, 5546 N. Loop 1604 West, Suite 150, will get underway next month with completion scheduled for January, according to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Launched in 2015, La Costa specializes in fresh seafood with a south-of-the-border flair, according to its website. The restaurant’s specialties range from octopus dishes to ceviches and aguachiles. The menu also includes tacos, oysters, appetizers, steaks and paella along with a variety of lunch specials.

The Current was unable to reach officials with La Costa Grill by press time Monday.

Edgar Soberon, the South Texas restaurateur behind La Costa Grill also operates the less-upscale Mariscos La Costa seafood chain, which has locations in Palmhurst and San Juan.
