San Antonio diner chain The Hayden last week sent out a customer newsletter urging diners to visit its location in the North Side’s Alon Market, adding that the store has struggled with low sales in recent months.

However, in a statement emailed to the Current on Monday, owner Adam Lampinstein said he didn’t want to give the impression the restaurant, which launched in early 2023, is in imminent danger of closure.

Both the Hayden’s Alon location, 10003 N.W. Military Highway, Suite #2115, and its original outpost, 4025 Broadway, are still operational, according to Lampinstein. The newsletter was an effort to remind customers that the business could use their support so it doesn’t have to fall back on any last resorts, he added.

“Just to be clear, neither location is closing immediately and my intention, above all else, was to just be transparent with the realities of my small business, and say out loud what a lot of other restaurant owner friends have been telling me quietly,” Lampinstein said.

“While I completely understand why diners are choosing to eat out less in this economic climate, I wanted to just remind people we are here and could use the support now more than ever — so that we don’t have to make that tough decision anytime soon.”

The Hayden sent out the newsletter on the heels of a number of other high-profile restaurant closures in San Antonio, including Dignowity Meats, Lala’s Gorditas and Rebelle.
