La Chinita’s, a long-running South Side restaurant serving both Mexican and Chinese food, has shut down until further notice, according to a sign on its locked front door.
The sign indicates that the closure is temporary while the business renovates. However, it offers no reopening timeline.
Located at 1012 Avondale Ave., La Chinita’s has served up its fusion cuisine for more than 40 years, the orange chicken in particular being a crowd favorite.

A Yelp reviewer commented that the business would reopen Feb. 22, according to MySA. However, the comment appears to have been deleted since the report, and it’s unclear whether the commenter has any affiliation with the business.
Further, a quick visit from the Current Thursday afternoon indicates that Feb. 22 came and went without a reopening.
Despite its long track record, La Chinita’s doesn’t have an official website or social media presence. And since no one appears to be answering its phone, San Antonio foodies are left with more questions than answers.
