Chef-driven Bunz Handcrafted Burgers has permanently shuttered its satellite location at 6819 N. Loop 1604 West near La Cantera after just two years in operation.
The Current confirmed the news with a phone call to the original Bunz location, which is still in operation at 122 E. Houston St. downtown. The employee at didn’t comment on the reason for the closure.
Chefs Thierry Burkle of The Grill at Leon Springs and Edwin Salazar opened Bunz’s original downtown location in 2020 with the aim of selling gourmet burgers complete with buns and patties both created in-house from scratch. Their second location launched in spring of 2023.
Bunz’s expansive menu of speciality burgers features sandos such as the cheekily named Mercedes Bunz, complete with house beef, chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, refried beans, a fried egg and roasted poblano peppers. Other options include a fully loaded classic burger, an award-winning crab-cake burger and a vegan option with plant-based cheese.
