As much as Texans like to tout themselves as mavericks and iconoclasts, they’re certainly not blazing any new trails when it comes to holiday cocktails, a new study found.

Indeed, Texas is one of a dozen states where spiked eggnog is the most popular Christmas cocktail, according to an analysis published by bartending and beverage-industry site Drinksworld.

The closest tipple in popularity nationwide is hot buttered rum, which is the most-enjoyed yuletide drink in 10 states. Christmas punch followed as the favorite in eight states.

To assemble the study, researchers analyzed Google search data to identify the most popular Christmas cocktails in each state by tracking keywords such “christmas recipe,” “cocktail for christmas” and “festive drink.”

Interestingly, Texas’ affinity for eggnog isn’t something it only shares with other Southwestern states. In addition to being popular in Arizona and Nevada, the creamy — some would say “heavy” or “dense” — classic is also a hit in the northern climes of Connecticut, Wisconsin and Michigan.
