Abraham Isaac Quintanilla Jr., the father of late Tejano music icon Selena, has died at age 86.
Quintanilla’s son, musician A.B. Quintanilla III, shared the news in a Saturday morning Instagram post.
“It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today,” the younger Quintanilla wrote.
Abraham Quintanilla founded the band Los Dinos in his hometown of Corpus Christi and served as Selena’s manager from the start of her music career, which ended in 1995 with her murder at age 23.
After her death, he diligently safeguarded his daughter’s image and continued to promote her music and legacy, including serving as executive producer on her 1997 biopic and participating in a later Netflix series about her career.
Quintanilla’s cause of death is unknown at press time.
