Since their 2000 debut, Assasynation 101, Assasyn Dynasty has been working to put San Antonio hip-hop on the map. The arty four-man group consisting of Tasz-One, Ibrahim, #9, and Orion Pax has opened for notable national acts including Wu-Tang’s Raekwon, C-Rayz Walz, and the Micranots.
Their latest effort, the Classified Mixtape is a great introduction to one of SA’s more conscious and adventurous hip-hop crews, and a testament to the cut-and-paste skills of producer Jaz Infinite. The release is a solid companion to Assasyn Dynasty’s forthcoming sophomore album, which could very well take the group to the next level. To get your copy visit www.culturesoundrecords.com.
Along similar lines, heads unwilling to drive to Austin to get their monthly hip-hop fix at the Fatlip show can support the local scene by attending Homegrown Hip-Hop on Friday, July 1, at Kingston Tycoon Flats, 2926 N. St. Mary’s. Scheduled performers include Binx, Ruin, DJ 7ish, Aztex, Word Association, Global, and the Dirty Crates Crew. For additional information visit www.musicnmind.com.
