Grammy-winning vocalist Patti Austin, known for bringing a similarly joyous and clear-toned approach to both jazz and R&B, will perform this Saturday at the Carver Community Cultural Center.

The daughter of a jazz trombonist and goddaughter of Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington, Austin began performing at the age of 4 and made her recording debut with soulful jazz albums in the ’70s. As a session performer, she sang on recordings by Diana Ross, Paul Simon, James Brown, Roberta Flack and more.

Austin found pop success in the early ’80s with the Grammy-nominated song “Baby Come to Me,” a duet with James Ingram, and she continued to record soul and R&B over the years.

To date, Austin has released 20 solo albums. Much of her recent output has focused on jazz, including 2007’s Avant Gershwin, which won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

She’s also recorded three acclaimed albums celebrating the legacy of iconic jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, the latest of which, 2023’s For Ella, Vol. 2, received a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Album.

Tickets are available from the Carver box office and at the link below.

$42, 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Jo Long Theater, Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry St., (210) 207-7211, thecarver.org.
