When Washington, D.C.-based artist Erick Jackson isn’t fronting the Apes, a band known for “a raw and primal bombast of hard-rock mysticism,” he creates paintings that combine “childhood memory with an imagined, other world.” Jarringly surreal, Jackson’s paintings range from psychedelic mashups to landscapes thrown off-kilter by conceptual signage and unexpected visitors.
