Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to pack up the ornaments and toss the tree.

Starting Saturday, Jan. 4, San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management Department will offer locations to drop off live, undecorated Christmas trees for recycling. Those are:

  • the Culebra Road Drop-off Center, 7030 Culebra Road
  • the Frio City Road Drop-off Center, 1531 Frio City Road
  • the Rigsby Road Bulky Drop-off Center, 2755 Rigsby Road
  • the Bitters Brush Recycling Center, 1800 Wurzbach Parkway

The centers will accept live Christmas trees Jan. 4-15.

Centers will be open Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. However, the Bitters Brush Recycling Center has extended hours and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Bitters location also is offering free mulch made of the collected trees while supplies last.

Trees must be free of decorations including lights, ornaments, artificial snow and stands, according to city officials. They also must be loose and unbagged.

Only smaller Christmas trees will be accepted in green bins wheeled to the curb for weekly collection, city officials said. For more information, visit SARecycles.org.
