If you’ve been on the edge of your seat waiting to see how the search for a new city manager unfolds, go ahead and scoot your posterior back into place.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg announced late Thursday that the position is now posted on the City’s website and that the application process is open through Thursday, Jan. 3. And, from there, it’s gonna move fast. Council is slated to review finalists starting Jan. 23 and vote on the winner’s contract by month’s end.
In case you’ve been on a recent media blackout, current City Manager Sheryl Sculley announced her retirement, which created the high-profile vacancy.
“Qualified candidates will have experience managing multiple departments in a large city,’’ Nirenberg said in a release running down the job requirements.
Of course, he didn’t mention that candidates also will need to be OK with the $310,000-a-year salary limitation and limited tenure placed on the position by the charter amendment voters recently passed as a middle finger to Sculley.
So, there we are.
Surely someone‘s interested in applying for a job with an eight-year term limit, where you’ll be paid less than some of your deputies and it’s impossible to make anyone happy. If you are, the holiday downtime might be a perfect opportunity to update your resume and take your best suit to the dry cleaners.
