U.S. Senate hopeful Beto O’Rourke had a plea for supporters on his final San Antonio campaign stop — help close the gap.
During Sunday evening rally at Alamo City Music Hall, the Democratic underdog asked attendees to keep volunteering up to the November 6 election so he can beat Republican incumbent Ted Cruz, who’s had a single-digit lead in polls.
“This is what it will take — every single one of us doing everything we can in the 50 or so hours before this election is decided,” O’Rourke said during a speech frequently drowned out by audience cheers. “That means if you’ve knocked on doors for us, if you’ve made phone calls, if you’ve texted, I need you to do some more of that after we leave here.”
O’Rourke also asked them to consider taking time off work or skipping class, which brought a cheer from the capacity crowd of around a thousand people.
“You can learn that stuff later,” he said to laughter. “We’ll never get this election back.”
