San Antonio-based Firstmark Credit Union has awarded 20 San Antonio-area school employees with $1,000 grants through its charitable arm, the Firstmark Foundation.
This is the fourth year of Firstmark Foundation’s Education Grant Program, and the third year that grants of $1,000 have been doled out to 20 recipients.
The money supports educators and school employees by funding their innovative project ideas and helping them get the materials needed to see their projects come to fruition, according to Firstmark Foundation officials.
“Oftentimes, our local educators and schools do not have the resources they need to help build an engaging experience for students, and with these funds being delivered it’s supporting their ability to create that environment,” Firstmark Foundation Executive Director Marisa Pérez-Díaz said in a statement. “We can’t wait for these educators’ vision come to life and look forward to seeing it all in action early next year!”
The grant arrives as already underfunded Texas schools are asked to return $16 million in federal money earmarked for special education programming and as districts grapple with multi-million dollar budget deficits. The grant recipients for the 2024-2025 academic year are:
