If you’ve been on apartment hunt recently, we feel your pain, fam.
Average apartment rent in San Antonio recently sailed north of $1,000, according to a new report from apartment website RentCafé. The citywide average hit $1,016 in December, up 3.5 percent from $982 a year ago.
Ouch.
But if it’s any consolation, S.A. remains the least-expensive of Texas’ five largest cities when it comes to apartment rents, according to the survey. And we’re still below the national average of $1,419.
Not so much bright side for Austin, however. On top of being the priciest of the Lone Star State’s “big five,” Hipster City also posted the biggest year-over-year percentage increase of the group, climbing 4.4 percent to $1,361.
Stay optimistic, San Antonio, help may be on the way. (With an emphasis on the “may” part.)
This summer, Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s Housing Policy Task Force dropped a report laying out how the Alamo City can make more affordable homes and apartments available. But, as we pointed out, the big question is how prepared city leaders are to execute.
