Six of the seven San Antonio police officers shot Wednesday night while responding to a call at a Stone Oak apartment complex are heading home from the hospital, according to a Facebook post from SAPD officials.
Although still in the hospital, the remaining injured officer, who hasn’t been publicly identified, is also expected to make a full recovery, the department said in its Thursday afternoon post.
“We are reminded of the sacrifice our officers make every day and night to keep our community safe,” SAPD said in its statement. “Please keep these officers and their families in your thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery.”
Police said Brandon Scott Poulos, 46, opened fire on SAPD officers Wednesday night as they responded to a call about a suicide in progress at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex on the 1800 block of Stone Oak Parkway.
“As police arrived, a female exited the apartment stating that the suspect was shooting inside, and he was coming out of the apartment,” police officials told the Express-News. “The suspect then exited the apartment and opened fire on the responding officers, striking one officer in the leg.”
Poulos continued shooting at responding officers and SWAT Team members until early Wednesday morning, when his deceased body was recovered from inside the apartment, department officials said.
It remains unclear whether Poulos took his own life or he was killed by police gunfire, SAPD Chief William McManus told reporters during a Thursday morning press conference.
Police haven’t disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
