The Hondo Police Department discovered what officials there called a “bizarre and toothsome discovery” in a Friday Facebook post.
“On March 4, 2025, Hondo Police Officers responded to an unusual call — human teeth were discovered buried in a residential yard. Yes, you read that right. TEETH. Lots of them,” the post read.
The Criminal Investigation Department had a dentist in the small town 45 minutes east of San Antonio inspect the teeth to confirm they were authentic human choppers, “because, honestly, we hoped they weren’t real,” the post said.
Had Hondo cops discovered the home of the elusive Tooth Fairy? Or did some terrible crime take place at the residence?
Turns out, the truth is easier to chew on.
“Now, before you start drafting your next true-crime podcast script, there’s a logical explanation!” the post continued.
Through the investigation, Hondo police discovered the home’s previous owners were local dentists who practiced in Hondo 50 to 70 years ago.
“According to family members, it was apparently a dental tradition (or folklore) to bury teeth for good luck when selling a home,” the post explained.
While something unusual had taken place, Hondo PD confirmed no crime had been committed. Still, remind us not to piss off any dentists.
