U.S. Rep. Chip Roy’s Democrat challenger is calling out the three-term GOP incumbent for failing to respond to multiple debate requests as Election Day looms.

Democrat Kristin Hook first challenged Roy to an Oct. 6 debate but received no response. Two days later, Hook took to social media platform X and posted a video calling out Roy, whose District 21, which includes large swaths of San Antonio’s Northside and Hill Country suburbs.

“When I meet voters across our district, the thing I hear most people ask me is ‘are we going to debate?'” Hook said in the 42-second-long clip. “They want to hear from you, and they deserve to hear from their representative and know that they have an alternative choice.”

Twelve days later, Hook — a political novice with a background in animal behavioral studies — has yet to receive a response from Roy’s camp.

On Friday, Hook again took to social media to demand that Roy meet her on the debate stage.

“You need to respond; I am ready to debate you,” Hook said in her latest video. “You name the time and the place, and I will be there. Let’s do this, our district deserves it.”

Roy’s campaign was unavailable for immediate comment on whether he plans to debate Hook.

Hook’s latest lambasting of Roy comes mere days after the Express-News editorial board endorsed the Democrat in the race for HD 21.

“Hook has the temperament, expertise and policy chops to serve in Congress. With Roy, it’s just more bluster,” the daily’s editorial board wrote.

Despite that endorsement, Hook’s chances of flipping the seat held by Roy since 2019 remain slim. Although polling on the race is scarce, D.C.-based political news publication The Hill gives Roy a 99% chance of re-election.

Those odds may seem surprising to those keeping up with Roy’s outlandish and often headline-grabbing comments.

The most recent of those came during a speech honoring the victims of 9/11. During his screed, Roy questioned whether U.S. was even worth defending anymore due to transgender teachers.

That diatribe came about a month and a half after Roy blamed “woke DEI quotas” for the first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The month prior, he fired off a social media post saying he wanted to cleanse the nation of white progressives.
