Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez celebrated Valentine’s Day by announcing he and his husband Nathan are expecting a baby girl through a surrogate.

“This Valentine’s Day, Nathan McKee-Rodriguez and I are beyond excited to share the sweetest news: our little Valentine is on the way!” the District 2 council member’s Facebook post read.

“We’re overjoyed to be welcoming a precious baby girl into our family, a beautiful reminder that love grows in the most magical ways” the post continued.

The images shared in the online announcement included a fake newspaper with the headline “Breaking News: Baby Girl Coming Soon.” In the caption, the councilman stated that the baby will arrive this July.

However, the proud couple is keeping some details under wraps.

Jalen McKee-Rodriguez told the Current he and Nathan are keeping the baby’s name “secret for a while.” The councilman also declined to say whether the surrogate is someone the couple already knew or was connected with them through an agency.

“For now, we’re leaving most of the details to ourselves, but we plan to share more later,” he added via text.

The progressive councilman is running for his final term in office. He’s up for reelection in May, when San Antonio also picks its next mayor.
