Kristian Carranza, who’s running to represent San Antonio’s Texas House District 118, posted the strongest fundraising period of any Texas House Democrat this cycle, new campaign finance filings show.

And the good news for Carranza comes with just four weeks until Election Day.

The McCollum High School graduate reported raising nearly $445,000 since July 1, giving her nearly a 17-to-1 cash-on-hand advantage over her little-known opponent, Republican Jorge Borrego.

That’s bad news for Borrego’s campaign, which reported just $22,732 cash on hand. That comes as the Republican tries to shake off resurfaced tweets from his teens in which he talked about cocaine use, said demeaning things about women and used homophobic slurs and racist tropes.

In a statement, Borrego’s campaign brushed off the offensive tweets as “crude and immature jokes I made when I was a kid.”

Carranza, though, maintains that Borrego’s explanation isn’t good enough.

“While [Borrego] spends the final weeks of this race answering for more than 150 offensive and disturbing social media posts, we’re building a campaign focused on the working families of this district and the affordability issues that affect their lives,” Carranza said in a statement.

Early voting runs Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
