Former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg coasted to an easy victory over financial planner and conservative activist Patrick Von Dohlen in the race for Bexar County judge.

Nirenberg, a Democrat, took 67% of the vote, while Von Dohlen ended up with 33%.

The victory comes after Nirenberg defeated one-term Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai this spring in the Democratic primary.

In comments to KSAT, Nirenberg said his first priority after being sworn in this January will be public safety. He told the TV station he would prioritize finding resources for the courts and the district attorney’s office and work to address issues with the jail.

Nirenberg’s jump from San Antonio mayor to the county’s top elected position mirrors the trajectory of retired Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who served in the position for nearly 22 years after two terms as San Antonio mayor.
