A San Antonio man was arrested Thursday over allegations he posted an online threat to harm people attending a vigil for right-wing activist Charlie Kirk at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s main campus, KSAT reports.
San Antonio police took Xaelyn Dunbar, 19, into custody, and he now faces terroristic threat charges over a Facebook post suggesting he could mow down vigil attendees with a pickup truck, according to the TV station.
Kirk, a controversial political figure known for drumming up support for President Donald Trump on college campuses, was assassinated during a Sept. 10 speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.
“This is a disgrace and I can tell you right now ima make sure this won’t be good nor comforting vigil yall watch and see,” Dunbar wrote in the comments section about the Kirk vigil on Facebook.
Dunbar continued: “You’ll see tmr I jus wouldn’t advise tryna stop a ford 250 Diesel truck. Show yall how much Charlie really means.”
Someone reported the posts to authorities, and SAPD and Universal City police conducted a welfare check at the suspect’s home, where he said he was “being dumb” and just “clowning around,” according to the arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT.
However, authorities didn’t think Dunbar’s comments were funny, and booked him into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, where he’s being held on a $40,000 bond.
