Monday’s torrential rains in San Antonio have closed roads, delayed school openings and left CPS Energy customers without power.

A total of 2.59 inches of rain was recorded at San Antonio International Airport as of press time — a new record for June 15. The previous record of 1.68 inches for this calendar day was set in 1894, according to the Express-News.

In response, the National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Bexar County through Tuesday evening, since more rain is forecast from this afternoon through Tuesday morning.

All that precipitation led to more than 30 road closures as of press time, mostly on the North Side.

Early Monday, more than 10,000 power outages were also reported across Bexar County. However, the number of affected customers dwindled to just 600 by late morning, according to CPS Energy.

The power outages and road closures led several school districts, including the Alamo Colleges District, Harlandale ISD and South San Antonio ISD, to delay the start of summer classes until 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, Bandera and Judson ISDs canceled all classes, camps and events Monday due to the severe weather.
