If Alamo City sports teams and colleges along with H-E-B can have mascots, why not our airport?
Turns out San Antonio International Airport officials are looking for outgoing folks to bring a new mascot to life.
Those interested in the gig should be between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-1 with a thin, athletic build, according to airport’s online job posting, and naturally, prior mascot, cheerleader or street team experience is a plus.
So, exactly what kind of costume will applicants be expected to don? Are they expected transform into Becky the Baggage Handler, TSA Tomas or Cindy at the Cinnabon Counter?
Wish we could say.
Apparently the identity of the SAT mascot is still under wraps, since officials haven’t unveiled details other than the basics outline in their casting call.
While the concept of an airport mascot may be new in San Antonio, it appears SAT is playing a game of catchup. Airports mascots greeting U.S. travelers now include Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Amelia the Airplane, Fresno Yosemite International Airport’s Gordo and Seattle-Tacoma International Airports Jett the SEA Otter.
Those interested in repping San Antonio International as mascot should send a resume and headshot to SATevents@sanantonio.gov before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.
