San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is in urgent need of pet food to help struggling residents feed their furry companions. The request comes as soaring grocery costs continue to increase food insecurity.

Those interested in helping out can donate to the SAACS Pet Pantry at 4710 State Highway 151 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends.

“Every donation helps a San Antonio pet guardian care for their pet and can prevent an animal from entering the shelter simply because their family needs a little help,” SAACS officials said in a press release.

SAACS is looking for donations of Purina dry cat food, Pedigree adult dog food and puppy food. The city department maintains a wishlist on Amazon, but all donations are welcome right now.

Food insecurity has been rising nationally since the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, 47 million Americans were food insecure, and 71% of all U.S. households had at least one pet, according to a study from the American Animal Hospital Association.
