Authorities arrested a San Antonio police officer Wednesday on charges of injuring a child and child endangerment, department officials said.

Bless Achor, a six-year SAPD veteran, turned himself in to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest, according to a department statement. He now faces charges of injury to a child causing bodily injury and of abandoning or endangering a child, the department added.

Achor, a member of SAPD’s patrol division, is accused of striking his 12-year-old daughter and dragging her across the room after she refused to help her stepmother carry groceries, the Express-News reports, citing arrest affidavits.

After the child told Achor she was worried about blood coming from a cut above her eye, he told her to “let it bleed out” and refused to seek medical help, according to documents cited by the daily.

When the girl’s mother learned of the incident, she drove to San Antonio from East Texas to pick her up, according to the Express-News. The mother later obtained medical care for the child.

A report from the Texas Rangers cited by the Express-News said medical records show the girl had a hemorrhage in her right eye, head injuries and a suspected perforated eardrum. The injuries showed signs of “significant trauma,” according to records cited in the story.

Achor was placed on administrative duty while the department conducts its own investigation, department officials said. He was released from Bexar County jail on Wednesday.
