A San Antonio police officer received a 30-day suspension this summer after an internal investigation determined that he used excessive force on a suspect, city records show.
Officer Jordan Helire received the punishment over allegations he yanked a female suspect from his patrol vehicle, allowing her to be injured as she fell in an “uncontrolled manner,” according to disciplinary documents. The paperwork also accuses him of failing to report the injury to a supervisor.
The incident in question took place when Helire was on a March 6 domestic violence call, records show.
After Helire arrested a woman on suspicion that assaulted her boyfriend and placed her, handcuffed, in the back seat of a patrol vehicle, she began banging her head on the window. The officer grabbed the suspect and pulled her from vehicle, causing a fall that injured her right arm, according to the documents.
Helire subjected the suspect to “unnecessary physical violence as a result of his actions,” the disciplinary records assert. They also state that his failure to report the matter to a higher-up placed him in further violation of department rules.
SAPD served Helire with his punishment on June 20 and he completed the suspension Aug. 16, records show.
