San Antonio police officer arrested on allegations that he assaulted his wife

Bexar County deputies on Thursday arrested a 24-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department over allegations that he assaulted his wife.

Officer Ruben Vasquez, 53, now faces charges of assault bodily injury-family for an incident that took place Wednesday at his home, SAPD officials said.

Vasquez is on administrative duty while the department conducts an investigation, authorities said. At the time of his arrest, he was assigned to the department’s West Patrol Section.

Deputies reported to a Northwest San Antonio home on the 8900 block of Highland Gate on Thursday after a call from Vasquez’s wife, the Express-News reports, citing Bexar County arrest records.  

Vasquez’s wife told deputies that during an argument, her husband raised his fist and advanced on her, reports the daily. After she pushed him away, Vasquez shoved her with both hands, causing her fall, records cited by the Express-News show.

The wife told deputies she experienced back pain after the fall, the newspaper also reports.
