Jorge Borrego, a Republican running to represent Texas’ hotly contested 118th House District, faced possible eviction from his rented San Antonio residence earlier this month over unpaid rent, court records show.

On July 30, Invitation Homes 7LP filed an eviction complaint against Borrego at his home in a far West Side neighborhood. The issue was set to go to trial on Aug. 13 but was dismissed Aug. 3, according to documents.

The filings are the latest headache for Borrego’s campaign after the unearthing of decade-old social media posts, including ones that used homophobic slurs and others in which he alluded to using and selling cocaine. He’s since apologized for the remarks and said he’s matured since he made them.

When reached for comment on the eviction proceedings, Borrego said the suit “was improperly filed” but didn’t elaborate on details.

Borrego, a real estate agent, is running to represent highly competitive District 118, which includes swaths of San Antonio’s south and east sides.

The eviction complaint surfaced the same week the candidate was put on the defensive about a string of tweets from 2013. Those included a fake quote attributed to Adolf Hitler, derogatory comments about Asians, homophobic remarks and a post calling someone a variation of the N-word.

In a 2013 tweet uncovered by the Current on Thursday, Borrego also joked about sexually assaulting women.

“How to get out of the friendzone: just whip your dick out and tell her she gone learn today,” the tweet said.

Borrego, who’s now 30, initially responded to a re-sharing of the tweets by a right-wing blogger with the online response, “I was 16 lol.” However, he’s since apologized for making the remarks.

“The posts in question were crude and immature jokes I made when I was a kid,” Borrego said in a statement. “They were not admissions nor descriptions of actions I had taken. I regret the language I used then and apologize to anyone it hurt. In no way do those past posts represent my current sentiments and feelings.”

In a statement, Borrego’s opponent, Democrat Kristian Carranza, said she was “disgusted” by his online rhetoric.

“Jorge bragged about trafficking women, repeatedly and publicly solicited nude photographs, and has sent more than 150 lewd, racist, and perverse tweets,” Carranza said. “And his response when asked about these tweets was ‘lol.’ It’s clear that this man is unfit and unable to serve in a position of trust.”

Carranza, who narrowly lost to Republican state Rep. John Lujan in her 2024 bid for the Texas House seat, has a 17-to-1 cash advantage over her opponent, financial filings show.
