One person is dead and nearly two dozen more had to be rescued from high water due to Monday’s flash flooding, the San Antonio Fire Department told the Express-News.
The fatality occurred Monday morning near J. Street Park alongside Salado Creek on the East Side. First responders recovered a body from a tree amid high water, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene, the daily reports.
Overnight, SAFD also had to use a ladder to rescue two people from a vehicle that drove into high water, according to the Express-News. The other rescues involved crews assisting people in stalled vehicles by helping them walk through standing water to safety.
The rescues came as San Antonio’s North Side received 4-6 inches of rain Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue multiple Flash Flood Warnings.
The heavy rains also led to the cancellation of some Fiesta events Monday, including the Texas Cavaliers River Parade and the Fiesta de los Reyes at Market Square.
More rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
