More than 700 people named Kyle descended Saturday on the Austin suburb of Kyle for its fifth annual attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with the same name.

And, once again, the city fell short of that goal, Austin TV station KVUE reports.

The Texas gathering failed to pull the 2,3256 like-named folks needed to surpass the Guinness World Record, which is currently held by a group of Ivans that gathered in a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017.

Indeed, only 706 Kyles — less than half of last year’s turnout — showed up for the Austin suburb’s latest Gathering of the Kyles, according to KVUE. The event took place at the Kyle Fair A Tex-Travaganza and wrapped up Sunday.
With this year’s diminished turnout, it remains to be seen whether the town will keep vying for a spot in the record book.
