Yet another poll has found that Texas’ proposed on THC-containing hemp products is deeply unpopular across the political spectrum.

The survey, conducted by Trump pollsters Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, found that 61% of all registered Texas voters oppose Senate Bill 3, legislation championed by Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick that would ban the sale and possession of psychoactive THC. What’s more, registered GOP voters oppose the measure by a 44%-31% margin.

Advocates argue Patrick’s bill is death sentence for the state’s once-burgeoning $8 billion hemp industry and would cut off access for veterans and others who use THC to mitigate the effects of PTSD, chronic pain and other ailments.

The Fabrizio, Lee & Associates poll interviewed 600 registered Texas voters May 28-29 via phone and SMS messaging. It has a 4% margin of error.

Its release comes a week after a separate poll conducted by the Texas Hemp Business Council found that 47% of the state’s GOP primary voters oppose the ban.

Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, has until Sunday to decide whether to sign the bill into law, veto it or allow it to take effect without his signature.

Vetoing the bill could gin up conflict between Abbott and Patrick, who had made passing SB 3 one of his top legislative priorities. However, allowing the bill to become law could be damaging to Abbott, who risks pissing off veterans and the libertarian wing of the Republican base.

Stay tuned.
