The San Antonio Zoo is in a race to be named the country’s best by USA Today readers.

The Alamo City attraction was one of 20 nominated by USA Today in the Best Zoo category of its 2025 Reader’s Choice Awards. The winner will be determined by readers, who can cast votes daily after creating a login at the paper’s website.

Voting opened this Monday and will run through Monday, March 10.

It’s the second consecutive year that the San Antonio Zoo has been nominated. However, after reader votes were tallied, it didn’t make the cut to be listed among USA Today’s 10 Best Zoos last year.

In the USA Today contest, the San Antonio Zoo’s Flamingo Mingle is also up for consideration as Best Zoo Exhibit and its annual membership also is in the running for Best Annual Zoo Membership.

The San Antonio Zoo has racked up a slew of awards over the years, including being named the nation’s third-best zoo by Newsweek and the nation’s second-best zoo for conservation by industry magazine Blooloop.
