While heavily promoted on social media, a proposed reality show called Socialites of San Antonio appears to be a long way from becoming reality, MySA reports, citing a source who claims to have withdrawn a major source of funding.

An anonymous backer of the program told the news site he initially ponied up $80,000 but yanked the investment in early January over concerns about the returns it might yield.

Despite the funding source drying up, director and showrunner Luiggi Svagelj of an enterprise called For The People Pictures is continuing to tease the yet-unreleased show on TikTok, MySA reports. Indeed, Svagelj reportedly told MySA at one point that the series was fully funded.

Svagelj didn’t respond to the Current’s request for comment.

The investor, who told MySA he didn’t want to be named for fear of being asked for additional handouts, told the news site he was “very surprised” Svagelj continued to build buzz for the show. As recently as last week, the director hosted a low-attendance meet-and-greet with the cast at downtown bar Pink Shark, according to the report.

The MySA report comes as TikTok users have raised questions about the show and whether the purported “socialites are actually members of Alamo City high society.
