Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on Wednesday raided San Antonio’s Calfas Law Group, where Jason Wolff, an outspoken candidate for Bexar County District Attorney, is employed.
During the raid, attorney Neil Calfas, 56, was taken into custody on charges of human trafficking and solicitation of prostitution, DPS officials said.
“The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available for release at this time,” DPS Staff Sgt. Dila Hidalgo said in a statement.
A hearing regarding the matter in the 225th District Court is set for 1:15 p.m. Thursday, records show.
Wolff, who’s running for Bexar DA as an independent candidate, is an attorney at Calfas Law Group, which specializes in personal injury, criminal defense and divorce and family law.
Wolff, who’s the nephew of former Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, told the Current he hasn’t been charged with any crime and had no prior knowledge of his employer’s alleged misdeeds.
“I’m surprised by it, like it was to everybody else,” Wolff said.
Wolff said he was at the Bexar County Courthouse working on a case when the raid occurred. He added that the incident will have no effect on his political campaign.
