After Sunday night’s heartbreaking playoff loss, Spurs fans could use some good news.
And here it is: Victor Wembanyama won’t face suspension — or even a fine — in the wake of his ejection during the team’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.
“There will be no further discipline for Spurs star Victor Wembanyama after he was ejected for elbowing Naz Reid in Minnesota on Sunday night, sources tell ESPN,” the veteran league watcher tweeted. “No suspension, no fine. Wembanyama will play in Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night in San Antonio.”
Many in Spurs Nation had been biting their nails at the prospect of the NBA forcing Wemby to sit out Game 5, dimming San Antonio’s prospect of advancing past the Timberwolves.
Wembanyama was ejected during the second quarter of Tuesday’s game after he threw an elbow that caught the Minnesota’s Reid across the neck. Refs called a “Flagrant Foul Penalty 2” on the contact, which sent Wemby out of the game and also carried the prospect of further penalties.
Game 5 in the series will get underway at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Frost Bank Center with NBC airing the contest.
