A new study of states’ favorite candies is likely to leave a sour taste in the mouths of chocolate lovers.

According to the Halloween-timed analysis by wellness site InnerBody.com, Texans have sucked up to Sour Punch Straws as their favorite sweet. Much of the has U.S. followed suit, the report shows, straying away from chocolate for fruit-flavored candies, many of them mixing sweet and sour flavors.

Researchers analyzed Google Trends and online search data to determine which of 24 candies they identified tracked as the most popular in each state. They followed the data for 12 months to make their list.

While it’s surprising to see sour candy pull ahead of chocolate, what may be even more shocking is that while Texas, Louisiana, Arizona and California all favored Sour Punch, the candy had almost zero search result in a dozen other states.

Maybe the they just can’t handle the pucker.
