It’s never too early to talk about Halloween.
Which means it’s the perfect time to break the news that the hauntingly popular Black Lagoon pop-up will return to San Antonio’s Three Star Bar this year.
SA will be one of 34 cities hosting the Halloween-themed pop-up, this fall, according to its organizers. Three Star Bar has hosted the Black Lagoon for two consecutive years, so it made sense for the OK-est bar on Grayson Street to bring the concept back to life once again — kind of like Frankenstein’s monster.
The organizers and Three Star haven’t confirmed the dates for the pop-up yet, but if past years are any indication, the Black Lagoon will open in late September or early October, with Halloween serving as the last day.
The touring pop-up was created by bar industry veterans Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage, who keep the spooky season vibes going through the specialty cocktails.
While the team hasn’t revealed this year’s full menu, they did tease highlights. Pumpkin fans can try Abyssa’s Obsession. Essentially a gothic spin on a pina colada, the drink involves multiple layers of ingredients, such as pumpkin-infused Kraken gold and spiced rums, sherry, coconut, lime and Bitter Queens tobacco bitters.
Patrons can also make like Edgar Allen Poe with the cask of Amontillado thanks to the aptly named Bone Temple. Said to resemble a spooky margarita, the drink includes Teremana tequila, spiced oat, orgeat, lime, vanilla, honey, absinthe, Lustau amontillado sherry, tart cherry, and another helping hand from Bitter Queens tobacco bitters. The menu continues to spin spooky takes on classic cocktails, with an espresso martini-inspired Moon Shadow.
The Black Lagoon pop-up doesn’t serve food, but hungry guests at Three Star can pair their beverages with Fried Hard, a veteran-owned fried chicken business located inside.
