A beloved West Side food institution has ceased operation.

Rosa’s Tacos to Go revealed its closure late last month in a Facebook post, thanking customers for their support and “lasting memories.” Known for its carne guisada, colorful decor and fresh flour tortillas, the taqueria had served up Mexican comfort food at 1721 Nogalitos St. since 2008.

“We do want to extend our great gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful years you all have supported our business,” Rosa’s Facebook post read. It continued “we will miss the wonderful people who have made this possible,” adding that “some went from customers to friends.”

Rosa’s ownership gave no reason for its closure in the announcement. However, a subsequent Facebook post noted that a “failure of visions” rather than economic woes led to the decision.

Even so, it may not be over for the taco business, just hasta luego.

“Goodbye for now but not forever,” the subsequent post said, adding “that chapter is to be continued.”
