Fights in San Antonio seldom end with drawn swords, but this one did, according to authorities. Credit: Wikimedia Commons / Jack Loomes

Over the weekend, a heated dispute ended with a street fight — and swordplay.

Responding to a report of a shooting, San Antonio police were dispatched to the area around the north-of-downtown intersection of San Pedro Avenue and West Rosewood Avenue at 12:39 a.m. Saturday, KENS 5 reports.

When officers arrived, they found an injured 22-year-old man who said an unknown person shot at him. However, authorities noted his injury — a cut wound on the upper body — wasn’t consistent with a gunshot, according to the TV station. Indeed, they found no proof that a shooting had occurred at all.

The man later admitted his 25-year-old roommate had cut him with a sword after a heated argument, the KENS story noted.

The pair had been hanging out with a group of men at the intersection when the quarrel broke out, police told KENS. The fight spilled into the street and several men drew knives. Not to be outdone, the roommate allegedly produced a sword, the station reports.

The KENS report didn’t say whether the man fetched the sword from inside his apartment or had it in a scabbard on his hip like an extra on Game of Thrones.

The victim was treated for the non-life threatening injury, KSAT reports, while police said the alleged assailant was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
