San Antonio criminal defense attorney Jason Wolff has collected enough verified signatures to appear on the November ballot as an independent candidate for Bexar County District Attorney.

“I got word from the Texas Secretary of State that it is official,” Wolff said in an Independence Day TikTok post. “God bless America.”

Wolff last week told the Current that he collected around 1,200 signatures for his petition seeking to add his name to the ballot — far more than the 500 required under state law. However, the signatures needed to be verified by the Texas Secretary of State before his name could officially appear.

“Upon completion of the review conducted by our office, it was determined that your petition contained 710 valid signatures,” Texas Director of Elections Christina Adkins wrote to Wolff. “After review, your application has been accepted. Your name will appear on the ballot for the 2026 General Election as an independent candidate.”

The nephew of former Bexar County Judge and former San Antonio Mayor Nelson Wolff, Jason Wolff was a judge for Bexar County Court at Law No. 2 between 2010 and 2018 and also served as an assistant district attorney.​

Wolff’s platform includes seeking and retaining talent — a problem during the tenure of retiring DA Joe Gonzales — and giving more discretion to assistant district attorneys to stand up to “ego-driven judges,” according to his website. Wolff has also said he’s against investigating or prosecuting federal agents.

“Being DA is a thankless job and one I said I would never want,” Wolff states on his campaign’s website. “I finally understand what it means to be called to serve. Transparent and apologetic. I will bring a backbone back to being DA. You will be held accountable when I am DA, and if you commit crimes in this town, you will regret it!”

Wolff has challenged Democratic candidate Luz Elena Chapa and Republican candidate Ashley Foster to a debate. However, neither candidate has responded to his request as of press time, Wolff confirmed to the Current.
