Beacon Hill nightlife fixture Web House Café and Bar has closed roughly half a year after the unexpected death of its owner, Mikhail “Mischka” Timofeyev, at age 50.

Timofeyev’s husband, Manny Castaneda, told news site MySA via email that he opted to shut down Web House in August because business dropped off following his spouse’s death. A “Restaurant for lease” banner now hangs on the bar’s former building at 320 Blanco Road, and its social media accounts haven’t been updated since July.

“After several months of supporting some of the monthly expenses personally, I realized that much of his customer base visited the venue because of [Timofeyev’s] outgoing personality, his delicious cooking, and his huge heart, and amazing goodwill within the community, so I decided to close the venue,” Castaneda told MySA.

Web House launched nearly 20 years ago on the St. Mary’s Strip, but relocated to Beacon Hill, where it emerged as a popular dining, drinking and socializing spot for the north-of-downtown neighborhood. Entertainment at the spot ranged from karaoke nights to electronica sets by DJs.

Timofeyev — a native of Moscow who came to the United States decades ago — was known for creating the cafe’s convivial atmosphere and a menu that ranged from bar-food standbys to Russian-style pasta, dumplings and borscht.
