The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood emergency warning around noon Wednesday for Boerne and Kendall County, where footage posted online shows road closures, rivers breaching their banks and emergency crews launching rescue boats.
“THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION!” the NWS said in a tweet. “Move to high ground if you are near Cibolo Creek or smaller tributaries. Turn Around, Don’t Drown if you encounter a flooded roadway!”
The NWS alert — an enhanced type of flash flood warning — expires at 8:15 p.m. It affects some 26,000 residents of the San Antonio exurb. The service reports that 4-12 inches of rain have fallen in Boerne as of press time and an additional 1-2 inches are still forecast.
Shortly after 1 p.m. X user @Jamie26385183 posted a photo of rising water in her Boerne neighborhood.
“Please, if you pray, pray for our community here in Boerne, Texas,” the message said.
Meanwhile, storm chaser Paige Berdomas tweeted footage of Texas Game Wardens launching rescue boats in Boerne.
News 4 SA meteorologist Joe DeCarlo reported around noon that waterways overflowed their banks and flooded part of Highway 46 between Boerne and Pipe Creek. GPS data shows much of that stretch of road is closed or impassible as of press time.
This is a developing story.
