Workers at San Antonio-based H-E-B are feeling the holiday spirit this week after the grocery store chain gave every employee at every location a $100 cash bonus.

Word of the holiday bonus first made the rounds on the social media platform Reddit, where user @Happy-Afternoon-7776 posted what appeared to be a crisp $100 bill laying atop H-E-B stationary.

In a statement to the Current, H-E-B officials confirmed that the photo is real, adding that the corporation issued the bonus to show appreciation for its workers during the holiday season.

“This is something that was done for Partners across all work locations,” an H-E-B spokesperson said in a written statement. “At H-E-B, our success starts with our people. H-E-B is committed to investing in our Partners who we consider the heart and soul of our company.”

Even so, the bonus may not come as much surprise to those who know the company well.

Forbes this year ranked H-E-B as the nation’s 23rd-best large and midsize employer. Last year, the magazine recognized the grocer as Texas’ second-best employer, trailing only NASA.

“It’s H-E-Bs way of saying thank you to the hard work and passionate service our Partners provide each and every day to our customers and communities throughout Texas,” H-E-B said.

The post on the r/H-E-B Reddit page has since garnered more than 700 likes and nearly 200 comments, most praising company and its employees.

“If anyone deserves an extra $100 during the holidays, it’s definitely H-E-B employees,” Reddit user @fumbs commented.
