Austin-based Via 313 is opening its third San Antonio location this Saturday, bringing the chain’s take on Detroit-style deep-dish pizza to The Rim.

The new restaurant at 17315 I-10 West will kick off its grand opening at 11 a.m. The celebration will include activities throughout the day, including an airbrush tattoo station from 5-8 p.m.

The store also will donate a quarter of all its grand opening proceeds to San Antonio-based nonprofit ChildSafe, which provides abuse-prevention training and treatment to children and their families.

Via 313 opened its first San Antonio location two years ago in the Medical Center.

Detroit natives Brandon and Zane Hunt launched the first Via 313 food truck on East 6th Street in Austin in 2011 out of a desire to bring Motor City-style pizza to the Texas capital city and beyond.

“Baked in a heavy pan similar to the auto parts trays found in Detroit in the 1940s, the light, focaccia-like dough develops a golden crunch on the bottom,” Via 313’s website says. “On top, cheese is spread to the very edge, so you can enjoy every bit.”

Via 313 has since expanded to 23 locations in Texas, Utah and Colorado.
