The business partner of Brad Simpson — the local man accused of murdering his realtor wife after a domestic dispute — was indicted by a Bexar County grand jury this week on allegations he helped hide evidence, the Express-News reports.

James “Val” Cotter, 65, is charged with tampering with evidence to impair an investigation and possession of prohibited weapons — both third-degree felonies, according to court records.

Cotter is accused of hiding an AK-47 assault rifle belonging to Simpson behind a wall-mounted television at his Dominion home. Authorities arrested Cotter in October. He’s since been released on a $100,000 bond but remains on house arrest, court records show.

Simpson and Cotter have been friends for at least 25 years and have been on-again, off-again business associates during that time, the daily reports.

Brad Simpson is still being held in Bexar County Jail on $5 million bond. He was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on charges of murder, tampering with evidence and possession of prohibited weapons.

Simpson is accused of murdering his wife Suzanne in October following a domestic dispute outside their $1.4 million Olmos Park home.

Despite extensive search efforts, authorities have yet to locate Suzanne Simpson’s remains.
