San Antonio police are asking for the public’s help after a homeowner reported that someone shot their cat in the spine with a blowgun dart.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, in the 7000 block of Spring Terrace in Northwest San Antonio. The cat’s owner called police to report that a dart with an orange tip was protruding from the back of the cat, named Smokey, according to a department Facebook post

A detective asked neighbors whether their home surveillance systems caught footage of the perpetrator. However, police currently have no video or leads.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to call SAPD’s Property Crimes Unit at (210) 207-8326.

The case is the latest incident of violence committed against animals in the Alamo City.

Last month, SAPD arrested Ryan Berlenga, 31, on animal cruelty charges after he was allegedly caught on surveillance footage strangling a stray kitten to death at a Southwest Side apartment complex.

In September, a woman who was reportedly caught on camera striking a puppy multiple times accepted a plea deal on animal cruelty charges brought against her.
