USAA is giving back to Military City, USA through a new partnership supporting the Alamo Plan, the long-running effort to restore the historic 1836 battlefield and surrounding footprint.

The San Antonio-based insurance and financial services firm will sponsor improvements to the Paseo del Alamo, a pedestrian corridor that links the River Walk and Alamo Plaza. As two of the city’s most popular destinations, the upgraded space will become a daily crossroads for locals and tourists alike.

According to the plan, along with much-needed physical upgrades, the project includes a commissioned mural by a local artist to anchor the corridor. A mock-up hasn’t been released yet, but the artwork is intended to foreground the city’s military legacy for the millions of tourists who pass through downtown every year.

As one of the largest employers in San Antonio, USAA’s involvement also underscores its long-standing economic presence in the region. USAA President and CEO Juan C. Andrade said the partnership is meant to honor the city’s military roots while investing in its future.

“San Antonio is our hometown, and we owe so much of our history to the military community that built this city,” Adrade said in a statement.

Plans also include a dedicated on-site military lounge that will offer service members and veterans a quiet place to rest and access financial education resources. More details both projects will become available as the revitalization efforts continue.
