Study: San Antonio International ranks among nation’s most expensive airports

San Antonio International is among the priciest U.S. airports to fly in and out of, according to a new study from the travel blog Locals Insider.

To compile the rankings, researchers for Locals Insider ranked the nation’s 50 busiest airports using 2024 data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. SAT landed at No. 15 on the list, with its average airfare running $384.52, or 5% higher than the national average.

Flying in and out of San Antonio International also is getting more expensive, the study shows. That average price climbed 3.6% from last year.

Even so, SA’s international airport is still more affordable than others around the state, including Austin-Bergstrom, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston Intercontinental. Ranked by average airfare costs, Texas’ priciest airports are:

1. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport – $392.31
2. George Bush Intercontinental Airport – $391.86
3. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport – $384.64
4. San Antonio International Airport – $384.52

Meanwhile, Washington Dulles International Airport ranked as the nation’s most expensive thanks to its $472.61 average fare. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International came in as the nation’s cheapest major airport. Its average fare is just $252.15.
