San Antonio International Airport will add new concessions from San Antonio’s Bakery Lorraine and 2M Smokehouse along with a wine bar from the Texas Hill Country’s Becker Vineyards and a new Popeye’s fried-chicken location.
Airport officials outlined the additions coming to Terminal B during a presentation this week to members of City Council. The terminal also is moving ahead with construction of a new parking structure and a Ground Transportation Center. The parking facility would accommodate an additional 2,000 vehicles plus a helipad for Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing Aircraft.
“We continue to experience strong growth at SAT. With 48 nonstop destinations and more on the horizon, we’re expanding air service like never before,” Jesus Saenz, director of the San Antonio Airport System, said in an emailed statement. “At the same time, we’re elevating every part of the customer journey. It’s all part of delivering an airport experience for which San Antonio can be proud.” San Antonio patisserie Bakery Lorraine has racked up plenty of accolades during its 10 years in business, including being named one of the nation’s best bakeries by Food & Wine magazine and recognized as a “destination bakery” by Condé Nast Traveler.
South Side barbecue joint 2M Smokehouse’s new location will introduce travelers to the city’s deft hand with Texas-style smoked meat. The smokehouse is helmed by Esaul Ramos, Jr., a two-time James Beard semifinalist.
Fredericksburg-based Becker Vineyards will also move into the terminal with The Tasting Room, a wine bar showcasing the burgeoning Hill Country wine scene.
As the fourth addition, Miami-based chain Popeye’s will offer up its Louisiana-style fried chicken.
To make room for the new offerings, Charleys Cheesesteaks, Alamo Alehouse, Pronto and Sbarros Pizza will vacate their locations inside the terminal, the Express-News reports. However, concessions from Whataburger, La Gloria, Smoke Shack, Beer Code, Adina’s Market, Boss’ Bagels and Starbucks will remain.
The airport team will work out a timeline for adding Terminal B’s new concessions after council approves the contracts later this month, according to the daily.
A raft of additions council approved last year are expected to open at San Antonio International in coming months, airport officials also said. Those include Southerleigh, Feliz Modern, Tre Trattoria, Military City USA, Univision, Pharm Table, Freight Chicken and iStore.
