If you’ve lived in the Lone Star State long enough, you’re bound to see something weird. Perhaps that’s why Texas ranked among the top states for UFO sightings in a new study.
Texans claim to have witnessed 21,905 such sightings over the past 40 years, according to the report, which was compiled using data from the National UFO Reporting Center and social media posts. That’s one sighting per every 1,360 residents, making Texas the sixth-most-likely state in which to spot a mysterious flying object.
Indeed, one of Texas’ most recent UFO sighting came last weekend, when a person in Rockwall reported seeing a cigar-shaped metallic object overhead, according to the National UFO Reporting Center’s regularly updated data bank.
Even so, Texas had nothing on California. The Golden State led the nation in UFO sightings, reporting a whopping 36,286 since the National UFO Reporting Center began collecting data in 1974.
Washington State — the reported home of the Sasquatch — came in at No. 2, while No. 3 Florida ranked third.
On the other end of the spectrum, sparsely populated North Dakota reported the smallest amount of UFO sightings: a measly 282.
“If you’re worried about alien abductions, rest assured, North Dakota is likely your safest best,” the study said.
Closer to home, oddities have been spotted in the skies over San Antonio.
In March, Alamo City residents took to social media to report seeing strange lights illuminating the heavens. Although billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX took responsibility for the anomaly, citing a recent rocket launch, some in SA refused to believe that explanation.
The following month, a seemingly inebriated man went viral on TikTok for confusing San Antonio’s Tower of the Americas with a hovering spacecraft.
